Memories
submitted by Rya, age 8

In the snow
Me and you sit, now
You threw a snowball
I threw a mudball
You lay there
I lay here
We get up
We tumble
Stumble
Now four years later I stand in a hospital hall
Looking at a wall
Asking why

When The Grass Was Green
submitted by Doodah, age 12

Walking on the grass on a summer's day
When the grass was green
Flowers blooming, on which I'd lay
When the grass was green
I gave you my loving heart on a summer's day
When the grass was green
You accepted it, I love you, you'd say
When the grass was green
We spent laughing days on a summer's day
When the grass as green
I loved you and you loved me on a summer day
When the grass was green
But no more love, no more summer days
The grass green no more
When you took my heart, I love you, you'd say
But the grass green no more
You crushed my heart, on that summer day
When the grass was green
No more love in my heart, no more summer's day
The grass green no more
Hearts can't heal on their own, no more summer days
The grass green no more
My friends helped me through on that autumn day
The grass green no more
But now my heart can love again, on this summer's day
Now the grass is truly green.
I found someone new, on this summer's day
Now the grass is truly green.

It's Night
submitted by Carrie, age 13

It's night
It's day
I'm happy
I'm sad
It's cold
It's warm
I'm smiling
I'm crying
It's raining
It's sunny
I'm eating
I'm starving
It's good
It's bad
I'm reading
I'm writing
You're here
You're not here
It doesn't matter
I am alone

People Say Time Heals All Wounds
submitted by Anessa, age 13

People say, "Time heals all wounds."
If that's true, why am I still crying at night?
If that's true, why does my heart still fight?
You have left your mark on me.
And my heart is still burning with white hot envy
For the girl you love
Why couldn't that girl be me?
I loved you once,
I loved you still,
Always have, and I always will.

Hunger
submitted by JWALK, age 15

There is nothing in this
World
That could
Satisfy
How the Angel of Darkness
Feels.
Only limited to the Society's
Expectations
That she can't
Meet.
Limited by
Self Doubt.
Hunger.
Hunger.
Hunger to feel
In control of
Destiny.
Something she can't
Obtain.
Hunger
Kills her.
Hunger
Heals her.
Hunger
Puts her at the driving wheel.
Hunger
Gives power.
Gives control.
Hunger.

I Looked Upon the Ocean Blue
submitted by Becky, age 13

I looked upon the ocean blue
As it glistened in the Morning Sun.
Silently washing over the sand
Somewhere where there was no one.

Suddenly, the sea was furious and strong
And it crashed against the rocks.
Then daggers started falling from the sky
And the sun was completely blocked.

Then as suddenly as it had started
The tantrum went away.
And I was left in the cloudless scene
A calm, beautiful day.

And that was when it came to me
My life is like a tide.
Sometimes I am angry and sad
But sometimes I just keep it inside.

I have now learnt that you can express your feelings
You can choose to act happy or sad.
And even when people think you're fine,
Sometimes it's really bad.

So don't forget that feelings matter
And no one can take that away.
And you can smile or frown as you please
Just like the tide that day.

You Broke My Heart
submitted by Jammy, age 13

You broke my heart,
So I broke your nose
No, I'm not sorry that I got blood on your clothes

'Cause you broke my heart,
So I died your eyebrows blue
I'm not sorry that your mates all laughed at you.

Fire Burning Bright

submitted by Anessa, age 13

Fire burning bright
And hot lies killing in the dark
You found my heart and left your mark
Now she's gone
I have no one
And it's all because I loved you
But now I sit thinking
I was so dumb to lose a sister over you
A very cold mister
She held me together
You held her
Now she's gone
And we still are not together

I Love Someone Who Doesn't Love Me

submitted by Gisi and Nathi, age 15

You look at me
There are no feelings in your eyes
It's not exactly what I want
When I see you
My eyes look like hearts
But you don't understand
I wish you could see my heart
That is going to break up
Because you don't realize
What I feel when you see me
I really want to say it to you
But probably
You would laugh at this

Love's Death

submitted by Emmy, age 9

When my heart stopped I felt dead
I feel death now
My love stops forever for your life
I feel the dead pull me away
Now I say good-bye

My Path!

submitted by Tree_Hugger_Luver123, age 13

The road goes ever on and on
Now far ahead the road has gone
Down from the door where it began
I must follow if I can.
Pursuing it with eager feet
Where many paths and errands meet
Until it joins some larger way
And wither then? I can not say

I Still Love You

submitted by Smiley, age 14

When you sad it was over, I cried
You were my everything
Now you won't look at me
I want to tell you just how I feel about you
But you won't listen
I see it in your eyes that maybe
Just maybe
You still care
And I will always wait for you
I love you

My Greatest Fear
submitted by Fearful, age 13

I'm a girl
Who feels alla lone
And who doesn't feel comfortable
In her own home
All the fighting
All the tears
My parents separating
Was my greatest fear
But now that they're over
And all is said and done
Everyone's still mad
No one has won
"It's all for the best,"
"Be strong and dry your tears,"
But they don't know that this was my greatest fear

Me And You
submitted by Fearful, age 15

I hated you back then
But now we are best friends
Our world turned upside-down
In the relationship we shared
We both acted like clowns
We said stupid things
We both know that's true
But I don't regret
Because it brought me to you

Ain't I A Woman 1991-2009
submitted by Mz. Mookie, age 18

Living in this life of mine, April H., has been more than great
More than fantastic. My life has been crowd-screaming,
Award-winning, top-of-the-line kinda life. But I mean,
I haven't been through what Sojourner Truth, Rosa Parks,
Harriet Tubman, none of them been through. But what I
Have experienced was the dream of Martin Luther King Jr.
Being brought out by our 44th president, who is black,
Barack Obama. Now that's what I call a life worth living.
Through these past seventeen-and-a-half years, my life's
Been kinda rough. But I've always had my friends and
Family behind me pushing forward, letting me. God created
Me for his own special purpose. So now, in the year 2009,
Our nation has a black president, I'm a senior in high school
Just trying to make it to the top as an attorney/entrepreneur.
And I'm gonna make it, cause I am a strong black young lady,
And I can go far. So now, ain't I a woman?

On My Way To The Top
submitted by Mz. Mookie, age 18

This life of mine has had its ups and downs, but I sure didn't let
Them keep me down. I'm living an American dream right now,
Where I know my dreams and aspirations will be heard. I just
Recently graduated high school, and they've always told us that
We have a voice that shall be heard. I only kept quiet because I
Was still in school, but now that that's all over with, I got a little
Sumthin'-sumthin' to tell y'all:

We've all declared that I am a woman, so I wanna let y'all know
That I and any other woman deserve to be respected as such.
Wait a minute: I ain't through. I just want to put it out there
That I got big goals to become an attorney and an author and
Nothing or no one is going to stop me from accomplishing my
Goals. So look out world, 'cause April H. is on her way to the top!

Rain
submitted by Imani, age 14

Off the bus
Past the sign I run
Through the rain
Fast as I can
Because I have no umbrella
If I had a friend
No problem
Home I fun
To keep from rain
No problem
If I had a friend

Why Me?
submitted by teenluvv, age 13

Slice the skin on my wrist
Deeper, deeper
Until blood drips
All the cuts
In fine lines
Are a reminder of my hard time
Every building I pass
Every corner I turn
I just wonder
Why me?

Everything Stops
submitted by teenluvv, age 13

Razor blade ready
Mind set on my goal
I slowly close the door
And turn the lock
Deep breath
As the blade comes closer to my skin
To the blood that runs through my veins
The blade cuts
Out comes the blood
I feel light-headed
Now I feel nothing at all
Everything stops
Now that I am dead...

Feeling Lost
submitted by Salena, age 11

Where would you be
If you weren't here
But then forget
All your promises
And I'm feeling lost
I'm so insecure now
You don't seem yourself
All my friends are leaving
My parents don't understand
I don't know what to do
I thought I could trust you
Turns out I can't
What am I supposed to do
When I'm feeling lost
I can't count on anyone
Except myself

Finding My Fate
submitted by Serendipity, age 18

I feel you, your presence
Beating in my heart and soul
Pulsing through my veins
Your essence makes me whole.
This can't be prolonged
And yet it must be.
This passion, this love
Won't set me free.
Uninhibited, open, I am unshaken
You're just within reach
And yet, my heart's breaking.
In and out of this sweet melee
The world disappears
And you're all I see
Unrestrained, yet subdued
So effortless and pure
And somehow I know
You're the only cure.
The truth is, I feel you
So deep within me
Your breath on my neck
Our thoughts flowing free
Your presence is clear to me
And yet, so obscure
I just need to know,
Will you be the cure?

The Black Girl
submitted by Ayjay, age 11

As I am strolling through Olde Green Meadow on a lazy summer's day, I see a young black girl, her clothes a grimy grey. She struggles thrugh the flowers carrying a heave load of firewood for her master, no doubt in payment for her filthy clothes. She turns around and looks at me; she has hunger in her eyes and I can tell she earns her food through scavenging and lies. I wonder how the world could be so outrageously unfair, for we are all equals, whatever others may declare. We are letting our differences turn to a blind hate, and I know that hatred leads to war. War leads to deaths. And deaths lead to mourning. So in time, I may be walking in Olde Green Battlefield on a cold, dark winter's day.

Distance
submitted by Marissa, age 17

I watch you laugh
The waves are crashing
I've seen you cry
Your smile is dashing
You're the perfect little boy

I miss you and I hope
You get to know me, your aunt
Who loves you more than you know
And your daddy doesn't know how much I miss him, too
These decisions have to be made
And I want to make them right for you

The sun is rising and now it's time to choose
I cry because there is so much to lose
I'll keep on living because dying isn't a step
To giving
Every breath is a little more shallow
Because this life feels hollow

If not now, we'll get to know each other
When these little lives are over
Bye Pumpkin
I sincerely hope to see you soon

Wishing You Were Here
submitted by Hannah, age 10

I'm on a beach in Hawaii
Having a sherbert cone
I am with my family
But I surely feel alone
I see your pictures
Through my digital cam
And as I see your laughing face,
I feel my eyes will slam.
They feel like tears are going to come
So fast I'll flood the world
So I play with my hair
And it goes everywhere
And then it starts to untwirl.
I wish you were here
We'd have the greatest time
But I am here and you are there
And I see your winking chime.
I turn the camera off
And look out from the beach
And I call you on my cell phone
That's how you I will reach
The answering machine goes on
And my heart breaks instantly
For we are countries apart
Over the Deep Blue Sea
So I'm wishing you were here
'Cause we're as close as friends can be
You'll see me soon, don't you cry
You haven't seen the last of me!

This Restless Feeling
submitted by Felicity, age 17

This restless feeling makes me believe
I am in control, I've mastered what is here
I'm ready to be out there, world, fight me
If you dare. But you must know that this restlessness
I portray is nothing more than a show
Comfort surrounds me among all these lovely faces
Yes, there are places my mind longs to go
But my heart tells me no
You must stay because all of those faces
Will one day turn gray and this restless soul
Won't feel bound, only regretful.

When the Earth Moved (A Poem About Haiti)
submitted by Addie.Tude.girl, age 12

When the earth moved
People's homes fell crumpling to the ground like they had finally given up
When the earth moved
You could hear the sound of people dying.
When the earth moved
It broke me inside.
When the earth moved
It was on the TV, people crying, begging for food, killing to survive
When the earth moved
So did we.

Please help them. They are hurting. Just because the earth moved.
