The Myth: According to Greek legend, Hercules - the famous Greek hero - killed a monster often called the Nemean Lion. Upon its death, the lion was placed in the sky. Leo is said to be that lion. Additionally, Leo is often associated with the Greek god Apollo (the God of the Sun), Helios (the Greek representation of the sun), Ra (the ancient Egyptian sun god), Huitzilopochtli (the Aztec sun god) and Sunna (the goddess of the sun in Germanic mythology).

Famous Female Leo:
Lina Wertmuller (August 14, 1928) is an Italian film director, who was expelled from more than a dozen Catholic schools growing up. The first woman to ever receive an Academy Award for Directing, with her film Seven Beauties, she is also a world record holder for directing the movie with the longest title. Though some have criticized her characters, they typically share her social and political views. People in her movies hold Communist and Feminist beliefs, although not every character acts on those principals in every story.
