The Naming by Alison Croggon (by Lavandablue, 13)

"Roam the amazing world of Annar!"

Book Rating: **** four stars (incredible)
Book Subcategory: Young Adult

Briefly tell us what this book is about (without giving away the ending, of course!).

It is about a girl named Maerad (My-rad) who is a slave in a terrible place. Then some mysterious guy happens across where she works and takes her away from the place and finds out something wonderful, yet terrible about Maerad.

How does the title relate to the storyline?

It is an important event near the end of the book. You would only understand if you read the book itself.

Is there something interesting that the author does to present the story?

The author uses good descriptive words and always describes everything that is anything. You get to read every little detail.

If you could rewrite the story, what would you change to make it better?

I don't think I would change anything; the book is so amazing.

Why would you recommend (or not recommend) this book to a friend?

It is a fantasy, so if you like imaginary worlds, this is the book for you. It is very loosely based off truth. Either way, try it out!

Why did you choose to read this particular book?

I had seen it in a lot of bookstores and the cover looked appealing and the description caught my eye. I devoured the book once I got ahold of it.

Complete this sentence:

When I finished reading the last page of this book, I felt... Surprised, the book had a shocking ending I didn't expect.

What type of reader do you think this book is appropriate for?

This book is great for girls 12 and older as it has some content suitable for those ages only. This book is definitely for no one under the age of 12. It is a very long book, so if your reading skills aren't the best, I suggest not reading it immediately. It is a tough read for some, but it is easy for big readers.

Give at least one example of a memorable quote, moment, or theme from the book.

'"When did you first get The Speech?" Maerad asked, smiling foolishly. "A frog spoke to me in a swimming hole. He said 'You swim like a frog on a stick. Go grow some fins.' I ran out screaming to my mother." Cadvan laughingly replied.'

Would you ever read another book by this author?

Yes

In your overall opinion, this book is...

Definitely worth your time.
