Looking For Alaska by John Green (by Some Japenese Girl, 16)

"A vanilla scented novel that will make the girls cry and the boys yearn to kiss Alaska."

Book Rating: **** four stars (incredible)
Book Subcategory: Young Adult

Briefly tell us what this book is about (without giving away the ending, of course!).

Well, Pudge, the main character, goes to a new school and meets the Colonel, Takumi, and Alaska Young. He falls in love with Alaska because she is beautiful, funny, weird, strange, hyper, and above all else, just herself. They do pranks, Alaska and the Colonel and Takumi, and they eventually get Pudge to go along with it. Pudge has a hobby of looking up the last words of great authors and important people, and when the worst thing in his life happens, he wants to know... I think I should stop because it's getting too close to revealing the ending.

How does the title relate to the storyline?

The girl... okay, her name is Alaska and something happens... I wish I could tell you and exactly why the title is like that. You have to read the book to fully understand.

Is there something interesting that the author does to present the story?

It is just so perfect. The way John Green puts every little detail in every sentence makes it hard to believe that it's just a book.

If you could rewrite the story, what would you change to make it better?

Nothing. I wouldn't even dare to change a single part of it. The book is just perfect as it is.

Why would you recommend (or not recommend) this book to a friend?

Because it will make anyone cry. And, also, it is a book you can't put down.

Why did you choose to read this particular book?

I love sad books and if it made my brother cry, then it will make me cry. I love to cry. It's a hobby, really.

Complete this sentence:

When I finished reading the last page of this book, I felt... Sad, I loved the book and didn't want it to end.

What type of reader do you think this book is appropriate for?

The kind of people who are interested in tragic endings.

Give at least one example of a memorable quote, moment, or theme from the book.

How do I get out of this labyrinth? - Alaska's favorite quote.

Would you ever read another book by this author?

Yes

In your overall opinion, this book is...

The best book I've ever read!

If a book is turned into a movie, what are you most likely to do?

Read the book first and then see the movie.

Saving Private Ryan

What color most describes your personality? Why?

Hot Pink- I believe this color is meant to surprise anyone. You can change your personality quite a lot. And I believe it is basically a color that makes scene girls, like me, go absolutely mad when we see it on a shirt with Girl on it. But whatever, I'm sure any other color would have a personality to me.
